Does anyone know if Dark Injection can be installed without ModAPI?

I'm currently using the Shimmer UI, but I just noticed that some text gets hard to read. Will changing back to the default UI affect anything in terms of gameplay?

I read in the link below that Dark Injection comes with new abilities like ones called Dual Blade Spin and Plasma Blast. Where can I find them? I wanna try them out!

So I want to get a certain kind of mission more frequently (like Extermination missions or Adventure missions). Is there any XML that determines the chance of what mission an empire gives you?
